About Hickson Images

I’m Josh Kulla, a photojournalist living in the Portland, Oregon, area since 2006. This blog contains some photos I make through my job, but also includes photography of music, sport, art, people and more.

I started working as a journalist on the Oregon coast back in 2000 and realized somewhere along the way that despite being a writer and editor by training, I actually enjoyed photography  in a more visceral way. In the past year, I’ve entered into a more serious phase of study of the art of photography outside of photojournalism. I am now a member of the Portland Metropolitan Ph0tographers Association and a student at the New York Institute of Photography.

I work full-time as a photojournalist and writer for Eagle Newspaper, which includes the Wilsonville Spokesman, Canby Herald, Newberg Graphic, Molalla Pioneer, Woodburn Independent and other community publications.
