Icy Yocum Falls

Yocum Falls is a hidden jewel on the south slopes of Mt. Hood in Oregon. I visited this beauty for the first time recently and came away with a new favorite spot. The upper splash pool gives way to a four-foot ledge that you can wade right up to if you’re careful. That’s how this photo was taken. It feels pretty cool to have all that water rushing over your boots as you try to compose a shot. And because this waterfall is over 3,000 feet above sea level and fed by glacial water, it’s noticeably colder than some of the Columbia River Gorge waterfalls and the creeks that feed them. Now it’s time to get back outside this afternoon in search of fall color. The sun finally re-emerged after five days of rain and its’ probably not going to last.
