Bring on the rain
Well, the predicted snow deluge failed to sweep through the upper Willamette Valley earlier this week. Instead, the weather warmed up 20 degrees and dumped several inches of rain on the Portland metro area, while flooding rivers, creeks and streams all across western Oregon.
I stopped by a creek just east of Wilsonville this morning that normally is no more than a foot or two wide, even during the winter months. As the photo shows, the water was coming down the hill in torrents. I took this photo at a shutter speed of a half-second, allowing the water to take on a smoother appearance while still showing some texture.
I may end up using this image or one like it for the Spokesman either online or in print. Or we might choose to stick with a snow image because of the relative rarity. Either way, winter weather can provide a host of different photographic opportunities, especially if you don’t mind getting wet.
